Installation and Customization#

A full installation guide & video can be found here.

The HUD wiki contains a wealth of information on installing the HUD as well as customizing it. However, feel free to reach out in the Discord if you have any other questions.

Installation (TL;DR)#

1. Find your TF2 install location
- The fastest way is to open Steam -> Select Games -> View Games Library -> right click Team Fortress 2 -> Properties... -> Under Installed Files, click Browse...
2. Navigate to ../tf/custom
- If you don't have a custom folder, create it
3. Download the latest release
- You just need the first zipped file (typically called budhud.zip)
4. Extract the zipped file into your ../tf/custom folder
- You can use Windows' built-in extraction (right click -> Extract All...) or a program like 7-Zip
- Ensure you don't have two folders within each other (see below)

To see if your folder is placed correctly, we'll use the info.vdf file as an example.

The path to the info.vdf file should be:

../tf/custom/budhud/info.vdf

NOT

../tf/custom/budhud/budhud (or ANY other folder)/info.vdf

This is the most common mistake people make when installing a hud.

budhud Updater Script#

budhud includes a shell script (budhud Updater.ps1, Windows users only) in the base directory that will allow you to do a few different things. Check out the wiki for more information.

@firePush1776 - You should be able to get it back by removing this section: https://github.com/rbjaxter/budhud/blob/master/_budhud/scripts/hudanimations_budhud.txt#L222-L231
COMPANION❤CUBE - It's working fine for me in all regards on spy, not sure what problem you're running into, and I imagine I'd be hearing more people mentioning it in the Discord since that would be a big issue. I'd need more info

I personally love your hud, but when I installed the hud It said it couldnt connect to vac servers for some reason, when I removed your hud from my custom folder, it worked afterwards, any fixes for this?

@The cookie muncher 🍪 - It's just one file you move into the "_enabled" folder, then it appears there
@Felthead - Glad it does! Hopefully it's still working, since I know a lot has affected Linux users with the recent TF2 changes lately lmao
@Skiddy - You should be able to get the old chatfont appearance back just by renaming the `chatscheme.res` file in `budhud/_budhud/resource`

I've been using your HUD forever, love it so much! This recent update, I noticed that "overheal" isn't displayed on the overall team composition health bars on the top. I can still see their health bar moving but not the overheal!

Fix/Update the HUD please.
The party chat and the item buttons in the inventory are way too large right now.

@Renvy - The report bug button was removed because it's almost never used, and the TF team usually receives bugs through email reports or on GitHub these days. I believe you can type `bug` or `reportbug` in console to get the same window to pop up
@bbdanny - The latest version of the hud should in theory address this, but yes you're correct. It still doesn't look exactly as it used to now, but I think it looks better than it did before.

-Added UI scaling based on resolution for better HiDPI support

I have "reload hud" button instead of the console and the console button replaces the "report bug" (for tf2) button. Is this intended? The bug report button is just gone unlike what is shown.
